standardplateantall
Standardplateantall, also known as the standard plate count (SPC), is a quantitative microbiological method used to estimate the number of viable microorganisms in a sample. It rests on the principle that each viable organism, given suitable growth conditions on a solid medium, will produce a visible colony. By plating a series of diluted samples onto agar and counting the resulting colonies after incubation, the number of colony-forming units per unit of sample can be estimated (for example, CFU per gram or CFU per milliliter).
The method is widely used in food safety, water quality, clinical microbiology, and industrial quality control
A key feature of standardplateantall is that it measures viable, culturable cells under the chosen conditions
Standards and guidelines from international and national bodies (for example ISO standards and pharmacopoeias) provide frameworks
