Standardiviranomaiset are official Finnish authorities tasked with the development, harmonisation and oversight of technical standards across various sectors. The term is often used in regulatory and industrial contexts to denote bodies that create or endorse standards that support quality, safety, environmental protection and interoperability of products and services. Within Finland, the primary standardising body is the Finnish Standardisation Association, commonly known as Standardi. Standardi operates under the Finnish Standard Institution (Finland Standards, FPLC) and is responsible for drafting new national standards (Finnish Standards) and adopting European and international standards (such as those published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) or the European Committee for Standardization (CEN)) where they are applicable in Finnish law.

The mandate of standardiviranomaiset extends beyond standard creation to include conformity assessment. They supervise certification schemes, coordinate with national accreditation bodies and, when necessary, enforce compliance through mandatory or voluntary certification programmes. In many cases, compliance with these standards is a prerequisite for participation in public procurement, access to certain markets or eligibility for subsidies and tax incentives. Standardiviranomaiset also play a consultative role in drafting legislation, providing expert technical input to government ministries, industry groups and consumer organisations. By fostering cooperation between industry, academia and public institutions, they help to align Finnish standards with international best practices, thereby enhancing competitiveness and protecting consumers. The activities of these authorities are supported by a transparent stakeholder engagement process, public consultation periods, and adherence to the principle of sectoral participation and cross‑legislative coordination.
