standarde

Standarde is a term that appears in several languages with different meanings, but it does not denote a single, widely recognized concept in English. In German, a closely related word, Standarte, means a banner or flag carried by a military unit; the modern plural is Standarten. Old orthography and some dialects occasionally present forms that appear as Standarte or Standarten in quoted texts. In these contexts Standarte denotes a unit’s ceremonial banner, standards used in parades, or flags.

In Afrikaans and other Dutch-derived contexts, the cognate standaard means “standard” or “norm”; the standard plural is standaarde. The exact spelling Standarde is not common in standard Afrikaans, and when encountered it is usually due to typographical variation, loanword use, or as a proper noun.

Standarde may also occur as a proper noun in multilingual or fictional contexts, where it can designate a place name, family name, or project title. There are no widely recognized persons, places, or organizations that use Standarde as a canonical name in major reference works.
