Scheduling should meet crop evapotranspiration and seasonal water demand. Pressure regulation and filter maintenance help maintain uniform application and protect emitters.

Advantages include flexible coverage, suitability for lawns and irregular plots, and compatibility with automation. Disadvantages include wind sensitivity, higher evaporation losses, potential overwatering in fine soils, and greater energy use. Proper design and operation reduce these drawbacks and improve efficiency.

Maintenance involves regular inspection of heads and filters, flushing and cleaning lines, winterization in cold climates, backflow prevention, and periodic performance testing to verify uniformity. Site-specific factors such as soil, climate, crop type, and water quality influence system choices and management practices.
