Soliq is the term used in Uzbek and several Turkic languages to denote taxation, the compulsory financial charge imposed by a government on individuals and organizations to fund public services and functions. The concept is rooted in a social contract and state finance; the specifics vary by country but generally tax systems comprise income taxes, corporate taxes, value-added tax or sales tax, property taxes, excises, and customs duties.

Taxpayers include individuals, companies, and other legal entities. Tax authorities establish rules, rates, and filing deadlines. Most systems use self-assessment, withholding at source, or both. Tax returns are filed periodically, and taxes are paid to the state budget. Compliance promotes revenue collection, while audits and penalties deter evasion. Tax policies aim to raise revenue, influence behavior, and promote economic efficiency or equity.

In Uzbekistan and many other countries, soliq administration is handled by a national tax authority; in Uzbek practice this is often associated with the State Tax Committee (davlat soliq qo'mitasi). Reforms in tax administration commonly focus on digital filing, online payments, and simplified regimes for small businesses to improve compliance and efficiency.

Historically, taxation has existed since ancient states, and modern systems typically combine income taxes for individuals and businesses with consumption taxes such as value-added tax.
