Network positions can be described by indicators like centrality, which capture prominence or influence within the group. Sociometric status categories are often used: popular, rejected, neglected, controversial, and average, derived from patterns of positive and negative nominations.

Applications: In schools, sociometric methods assess peer acceptance and its relation to social adjustment and behavior. In workplaces and teams, they help analyze collaboration networks, information flow, and informal leadership. The data can inform interventions to improve inclusion, communication, and group cohesion. Ethical considerations emphasize informed consent, confidentiality, and careful handling of sensitive information to minimize harm.

Limitations: Sociometric results reflect a snapshot of a particular group and may be sensitive to context, culture, and response rates. Networks can change over time, and interpretation requires caution, avoiding overgeneralization beyond the studied setting.
