Skipting is a term used in several domains to describe the deliberate omission of elements from a sequence or process. Because it is not a standardized technical term, its meaning is highly context-dependent.

In media and entertainment, skipting commonly refers to the act of bypassing parts of a playback sequence, such as skipping tracks, chapters, or advertisements in audio, video, or streaming services. User interfaces often provide skip controls that let viewers advance to later sections without watching in full.

In data processing and communications, skipting denotes the practice of discarding certain samples, records, or packets according to a rule, such as skipping every nth item (decimation) to reduce data volume or processing load. Skipping can introduce bias or reduce information content, so it is typically used with explicit sampling plans and documentation.

In software and algorithms, skip operations describe bypassing steps or elements during execution. For example, skip pointers or skip-based search strategies are designed to speed up traversal of sequences or graphs. The term may appear in algorithm design discussions but is less common as a formal label.
