skalletyp
Skalletyp is a Swedish term used in anthropology and archaeology to refer to the classification of skull shapes based on cranial dimensions. The central concept is the cephalic index, calculated as the maximum cranial breadth divided by the maximum cranial length, multiplied by 100. Based on this index, skulls have traditionally been grouped into dolichocephalic (long-headed), mesocephalic (average), and brachycephalic (short-headed) types. Thresholds for these categories vary by study, but commonly dolichocephalic skulls have a cephalic index below about 75, mesocephalic skulls around 75–80, and brachycephalic skulls above about 80.
