sjávarútveginum
Sjávarútveginum is a small coastal settlement located in the western part of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula. The village lies approximately 12 kilometres north of the town of Stykkishólmur and is situated along the northern shore of Breiðafjörður, the large bay that separates the peninsula from the mainland. The name comes from the Icelandic words “sjávar” meaning “sea” and “útveginn” meaning “route” or “way”, a reference to the ancient maritime routes that were used by local farmers and fishermen to transport goods along this stretch of the coast.
