The six-core designation has appeared across desktop, mobile, and server segments. In the early 2010s, several mainstream products marketed as six-core units, including desktop CPUs such as AMD’s Phenom II X6 and Intel’s six-core offerings. Over time, manufacturers expanded core counts beyond six, but six-core models remain part of historical catalogs and can still be found in older systems or budget builds.

Performance characteristics of six-core systems depend on architecture, clock speed, cache size, and memory bandwidth, as well as whether hyper-threading or simultaneous multithreading is used.
