Sisäkäyntimenetelmät, also known as indoor positioning systems (IPS), refer to technologies and methods used to determine the location of a person or object within a building or enclosed space. Unlike outdoor positioning systems like GPS, which rely on satellite signals, sisäkäyntimenetelmät utilize different physical principles and infrastructure to achieve indoor accuracy.

Several approaches exist for implementing sisäkäyntimenetelmät. One common method involves radio frequency (RF) based technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). Wi-Fi positioning systems triangulate a device's position by measuring the signal strength from multiple Wi-Fi access points. BLE beacons, small, low-power transmitters, can be placed throughout a venue to broadcast their presence, allowing nearby devices to estimate their proximity to each beacon. UWB offers high accuracy by measuring the time it takes for signals to travel between a transmitter and receiver.

Other sisäkäyntimenetelmät include infrared (IR) positioning, which uses IR emitters and detectors, and magnetic positioning, which exploits variations in the Earth's magnetic field or artificially generated magnetic fields. Inertial navigation systems (INS), often using accelerometers and gyroscopes in smartphones, can also contribute to indoor positioning by tracking movement over time, though they are prone to drift and often combined with other methods.
