siddhashila

Siddhashila is a significant pilgrimage site associated with Jainism, located in the Girnar mountain range in Junagadh, Gujarat, India. The name "Siddhashila" translates to "the rock of the perfected souls" or "the abode of the enlightened ones." It is believed to be the place where numerous saints and ascetics attained moksha (liberation) through rigorous penance and spiritual practice.

The site is particularly sacred to the Digambara sect of Jainism, though it is visited by Jains from all traditions. The legend states that the first Tirthankara, Lord Rishabhanatha, along with his eighty-four crore disciples, attained omniscience and liberation at this very spot. Many other revered monks and saints are also said to have achieved enlightenment here over millennia.

Devotees undertake a challenging trek up the Girnar mountain to reach Siddhashila. The journey itself is considered a part of the spiritual discipline.
