Self-balancing refers to systems designed to maintain an upright orientation or stable state automatically, typically through feedback control, mechanical design, or algorithmic balancing. The term is used across multiple fields, including robotics, control theory, and computer science.

In robotics and vehicles, self-balancing devices such as two-wheeled scooters and humanoid robots use sensors to measure tilt (gyroscopes, accelerometers) and actuators to correct it (electric motors). They illustrate how feedback and energy shaping stabilize an inherently unstable system and highlight the relationship between sensors, actuators, and dynamic modeling.
