Sebképzés is a medical term referring to the development of a wound and the subsequent repair of damaged tissue. In Hungarian medical usage it covers both the creation of the wound and the healing process that follows, including scar formation. Wounds may result from mechanical trauma, thermal injury, chemical damage, radiation, or infection, and can affect skin and underlying tissues.

The healing process involves four overlapping phases: hemostasis to stop bleeding; inflammation to clear debris and reduce infection; proliferation, during which new tissue and vessels form and the epithelium regrows; and remodeling, when collagen is reorganized and the scar matures. The duration and progression of these phases depend on wound type and context.

Factors influencing healing include age, nutrition, blood supply, infection, diabetes and other chronic diseases, smoking, and medications such as corticosteroids or immunosuppressants. Proper wound care, moisture balance, infection control, and adequate analgesia contribute to favorable outcomes. Wound care often involves cleaning, debridement if needed, and selecting appropriate dressings to support healing.

Complications can include infection, delayed healing, wound dehiscence, chronic non-healing wounds, and abnormal scar formation such as hypertrophic scars or keloids. In clinical practice, understanding sebképzés helps guide assessment and treatment across dermatology, surgery, and primary care. Assessment focuses on size, depth, tissue characteristics, exudate, and signs of infection; management includes cleansing, debridement when needed, appropriate dressing, and addressing underlying factors.
