sastavom

Sastavom is the instrumental singular form of the Slavic noun sastav, used in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian and related languages. Sastav means composition, makeup, structure, or lineup. The instrumental form sastavom is used to indicate “by the makeup of” or “with the makeup of,” and it often appears in formal or bureaucratic language to describe the composition of a group or object.

In practice, sastavom most commonly concerns groups and ensembles. For example, it can describe the lineup of a musical group or the personnel of a team or committee. Phrases such as sastavom od pet članova or u sastavu od deset članova specify the number of members, e.g., a band with five members or a council composed of ten members. The term is frequently found in official documents, reports, and announcements where precise makeup is relevant.

Beyond groups, sastavom can appear in contexts that discuss the makeup of an object or system, such as the composition of a project team, a jury, or an organizational body. In many everyday or general-writing contexts, however, speakers prefer more common expressions like u sastavu or sastav, depending on the sentence.

Etymologically, sastav derives from the idea of putting together or forming, with sastavom functioning as the grammatical form that marks instrumental usage. In ordinary speech, synonyms and alternative constructions (such as u sastavu ili sastav od) are often used to express the same meaning.
