salaojakerros
A salaojakerros, or drainage layer, is a critical component in various construction and horticultural applications designed to manage water saturation and prevent soil erosion. In building construction, particularly in foundations and basements, a salaojakerros is typically installed around the exterior of the structure. It consists of a permeable material, such as gravel or crushed stone, placed between the foundation wall and the surrounding soil. This layer allows groundwater to flow away from the foundation, reducing hydrostatic pressure and preventing water from seeping into the building. The effectiveness of the salaojakerros is often enhanced by a perforated drainage pipe installed at its base, further directing water to a suitable outlet.
In landscaping and gardening, a salaojakerros serves a similar purpose by improving soil drainage and aeration.
