Ronding, or rondingen in the Dutch language, is a term used across several fields to denote the smoothing or rounding of a corner or edge, as well as to describe the roundedness of particles in geology. The word derives from rond, meaning round, and the suffix -ing, which forms a noun from a verb or concept.

In geometry and computer-aided design, ronding refers to the operation of creating a rounded transition between two intersecting edges, typically with a constant radius known as the fillet radius. The result is a curved arc that replaces a sharp corner. Ronding helps reduce stress concentrations, facilitates manufacturability, and improves safety by removing sharp edges. It is contrasted with chamfering, which produces a flat, bevelled edge rather than a curved one.

In geology, ronding describes the degree to which sediment grains have a rounded shape. Grain rounding increases with transport and abrasion, yielding classifications from angular to well rounded. The degree of ronding, together with sphericity, informs interpretations of sediment transport distance and depositional environment.

In manufacturing and product design, rondingen are applied to edges for tactile or safety reasons, or to remove burrs after cutting or machining. Techniques include milling, grinding, turning, and deburring, and the choice of radius affects part fit and aesthetics.
