Riskitasoja is a concept used in risk management to describe the levels or gradations of risk associated with a given hazard, activity, or decision. The aim is to communicate risk magnitude clearly and to prioritize mitigation efforts.

In practice, riskitasoja are defined along qualitative labels such as very low, low, moderate, high, and very high. Some systems use numerical scales, for example a 1–5 likelihood or impact rating, or a combined risk score (likelihood times consequence) arranged in a matrix to assign an overall level. Such scales help standardize assessments across different contexts.

The assessment process typically includes hazard identification, estimation of likelihood and consequence, and evaluation against predefined thresholds. Risk treatment then seeks to reduce levels through strategies such as elimination or substitution of hazards, engineering controls, administrative measures, and personal protective equipment. Communication of risk levels supports decision-making, resource allocation, and monitoring.

Applications of riskitasoja span many fields, including occupational safety, construction, healthcare, finance, information security, and environmental planning. They are used to prioritize actions, set safety targets, and track changes over time. While useful, risk levels can be influenced by subjectivity, data quality, and changing conditions, so they are best used as a decision-support tool rather than an absolute measure.
