Riippuvuusristiriidat, known in English as dependency conflicts, arise in software development and package management when different software components or libraries require incompatible versions of the same dependency. This means that one piece of software might need version 1.0 of a library, while another requires version 2.0 of that same library, and both cannot be satisfied simultaneously.

These conflicts can manifest in various ways. A common scenario is when installing a new application that depends on a specific version of a shared library, but a previously installed application already uses a different, incompatible version of that library. Updating one application to satisfy its dependency might break the other, or vice versa.

Dependency conflicts are particularly prevalent in ecosystems with large numbers of shared libraries and rapid development cycles, such as mobile app stores or certain programming language package managers. Resolving these issues often involves careful version management, conflict detection tools within package managers, and sometimes, developers having to adjust their software to be compatible with a wider range of dependency versions. In some cases, it might necessitate a re-architecture or significant refactoring of the affected software. The goal is to ensure that all components of a system can coexist and function correctly without interfering with each other's required dependencies.
