rhoptryderived
Rhoptry-derived refers to molecules that originate from rhoptries, secretory organelles of Apicomplexan parasites such as Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium species. During host-cell invasion, rhoptries discharge their contents into the parasite–host interface, delivering a suite of proteins that modify the host cell environment to favor infection. These rhoptry-derived proteins, often grouped as rhoptry proteins (ROPs) and rhoptry neck proteins (RONs), act as early effectors that influence signaling, immunity, and the structure of the parasitophorous vacuole.
Rhoptry-derived proteins are broadly categorized by their location and function. RONs are associated with the rhoptry
Rhoptry-derived proteins are central to parasite virulence and host-pathogen interactions, making them important targets for research
