Revisionsprövning is a Swedish legal term that translates to "revision examination" or "review examination." It refers to a legal procedure where a higher court reviews a decision made by a lower court. This process is distinct from an appeal, which typically involves a re-examination of the facts and legal issues of a case. Instead, a revisionsprövning focuses on whether the lower court applied the correct legal principles and followed the proper legal procedures.

The purpose of revisionsprövning is to ensure the consistent and correct application of law across the judicial system. It is not an automatic right for a party to have their case reviewed. Instead, permission to proceed with a revisionsprövning, often referred to as "prövningstillstånd" (leave to appeal or permission to review), must be granted by the higher court. This permission is usually given only when there is a significant legal question or a need to clarify legal precedent.

The court conducting the revisionsprövning, typically the Supreme Court (Högsta domstolen) or the Supreme Administrative Court (Högsta förvaltningsdomstolen), will examine the lower court's ruling based on the case records and legal arguments presented by the parties.
