A retriangulated object refers to a space or mesh that has undergone retriangulation, the process of constructing a new triangulation from an existing one. The term retriangulated describes the result or state after this process. Retr triangulation is used in various disciplines where a triangulated representation is essential.

In computational geometry and mesh processing, retriangulation is employed to improve element quality, adapt meshes to geometric features, or change the connectivity while preserving the underlying shape. Techniques include constrained and unconstrained Delaunay retriangulation, as well as local operations such as edge flips, edge splits, and edge contractions. A central concept is the bistellar flip, or Pachner move, which replaces a small triangulation locally with another that yields a different combinatorial structure but represents the same PL-manifold. Pachner’s theorem asserts that any two triangulations of a compact PL-manifold can be connected through a finite sequence of such moves, highlighting the topological invariance of retriangulation processes.
