Resistansarbete, or resistance work, refers to the activities undertaken by resistance movements and individuals to oppose an occupying power or an oppressive regime. The concept encompasses both organized resistance and civilian acts of defiance, and it is observed during wars, occupations, or periods of political repression. The aim is to protect civilians, preserve cultural and political autonomy, and contribute to outcomes such as undermining enemy control, aiding liberation, or providing safe passage for those at risk.

Typical activities include intelligence gathering and dissemination of information; clandestine communications; sabotage of infrastructure or supply lines; printing and distribution of underground newspapers; and the provision of aid to persecuted groups, refugees, or downed combatants. Nonviolent actions, such as strikes, civil disobedience, or boycotts, can also form part of resistansarbete. Support networks often extend to medical care, logistics, and logistical planning, as well as facilitating escape routes and shelter.

Organization and methods rely on clandestine networks, small cells, and safe houses, with a strong emphasis on secrecy, trust, and coded communication. Participants may be a mix of armed fighters, civilian activists, volunteers, and sympathetic institutions. The risks are high; members can be arrested, tortured, or executed, and families and communities may be endangered. Successful resistansarbete often depends on mutual aid, resilience, and, when possible, external support from allied states or organizations.
