Renormalized is the term used to describe quantities that have been adjusted through renormalization, a collection of techniques used to extract finite, physically meaningful predictions from theories that are formalized with divergences or scale ambiguities. In quantum field theory and statistical mechanics, renormalization involves redefining bare parameters (such as masses and coupling constants) to absorb divergences or high-energy (or short-distance) effects into a finite set of measurable quantities. The result is a description in terms of renormalized parameters that depend on the energy or length scale at which a measurement is performed.

In quantum field theory, perturbative calculations often produce infinities from loop diagrams. A regulator is introduced to control these divergences, and the parameters of the theory are redefined at a chosen renormalization point. The dependence of these parameters on the energy scale μ is described by renormalization group equations, yielding running couplings and masses. Different renormalization schemes (for example MS-bar or on-shell) specify how the finite parts are chosen. If a theory can be made finite with a finite number of counterterms, it is renormalizable; otherwise it may be treated as an effective field theory, valid up to a cutoff scale.

In statistical physics and condensed matter, renormalization appears through coarse-graining procedures that integrate out short-distance degrees of freedom, yielding scale-dependent descriptions near critical points. The renormalization group explains universality and critical exponents through fixed points of the flow in parameter space.

Historically, renormalization concepts were developed in quantum electrodynamics and later formalized by Wilson and others to describe scaling behavior across many systems. The term renormalized thus denotes parameters, predictions, or observables that have been adjusted to reflect physical, scale-dependent content rather than the ill-defined bare quantities.
