The genus is described as comprising two species, Reinforcinia alba and Reinforcinia rubra, both noted for producing long, high-tensile fibers in their inner bark and phloem.

Morphology is described as tall, straight-trunk trees reaching 15 to 25 meters, with simple, alternately arranged leaves and small, inconspicuous flowers. The fruit is a woody capsule that splits to release seeds equipped with a light wing for wind dispersal.
