Regurgiteras is a term used in speculative biology to describe a hypothetical clade of animals characterized by the deliberate regurgitation of ingested material for multiple functions. The name derives from regurgitare, Latin for “to regurgitate.” Regurgiteras is not recognized as a formal taxon in current zoological catalogs; instead, it appears in thought experiments, world-building, and fictional scenarios as a way to explore the ecological and evolutionary consequences of regurgitation-based digestion.

In the fictional concept, regurgiteras possess a crop- or esophageal chamber that can store and re-digest previously ingested material. They may regurgitate food for offspring, aiding parental provisioning, or produce regurgitated masses for defense, scent signaling, or microbial fermentation to extract additional nutrients. Morphologically, such organisms are described as having flexible, expandable digestive tracts and specialized dentition or beaks adapted to initial processing before regurgitation.

Ecology and behavior: Regurgitation events can serve as social signals within groups and as a mechanism for distributing nutrients to young or to nest structures. Predation avoidance may involve rapid regurgitation displays, mass-coverage with regurgitated fluids, or the deployment of regurgitated masses as decoys.
