Recirkulatsioonisüsteeme, or recirculation systems, are methods used to continuously reuse a resource rather than discard it after a single use. The most common application is in aquaculture, where these systems are designed to filter and re-oxygenate water, allowing for intensive fish farming in a controlled environment. By recirculating water, the need for large volumes of fresh water is significantly reduced, which is particularly beneficial in areas with water scarcity. These systems typically involve mechanical filters to remove solid waste, biological filters to convert ammonia from fish waste into less harmful nitrates, and aeration or oxygenation to maintain dissolved oxygen levels.

Beyond aquaculture, the concept of recirculation systems applies to other fields. In industrial processes, for example, water used for cooling or cleaning can be treated and recirculated to minimize consumption and discharge. Similarly, in some heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, air is recirculated and treated to reduce the load on outdoor air intake, thereby saving energy.
