Raziskovanje is the Slovenian term for research or inquiry. It denotes a systematic, critical process aimed at producing new knowledge, testing ideas, or solving problems. It spans basic research, which seeks to extend understanding without immediate practical application, and applied research, which targets concrete outcomes for society, industry, or policy. The activity is undertaken across disciplines, including natural and social sciences, humanities, engineering, and beyond.

The term comes from the verb raziskovati (to investigate). In Slovenian, the noun raziskovanje denotes the activity itself, and the form raziskovanju appears as a grammatical case used in sentences such as v procesu raziskovanju (in the process of researching).

Methods and approaches in raziskovanje include qualitative and quantitative techniques, experimental and observational studies, surveys, fieldwork, and textual or archival analysis. Many projects combine multiple methods (mixed methods) depending on research questions, data availability, and ethical considerations.

The research process typically involves planning and literature review, formulation of research questions or hypotheses, design of methods, data collection, processing and analysis, interpretation of results, and dissemination through reports, articles, or presentations. Peer review, replication, and transparency are commonly emphasized to ensure reliability and accountability.

Ethics and dissemination are central to istraživanje. Practices emphasize honesty, integrity, informed consent, privacy protection, proper attribution, and responsible data management. The outputs of raziskovanje inform decision making, education, technology development, and policy, contributing to knowledge production and societal progress.
