Rahvapärane (literally "folk-like" or "popular" in Estonian) refers to traditional, everyday practices, customs, and cultural expressions that are widely embraced and maintained by the general population in Estonia. These elements often reflect the historical, social, and environmental influences that have shaped Estonian society over generations.

Rahvapärane culture encompasses a variety of aspects, including folklore, oral traditions, and practical knowledge passed down through generations. Estonian folklore, for instance, includes tales of mythical creatures like the *tõll* (a giant) or *kaukas* (a forest spirit), as well as songs, dances, and rituals tied to seasonal cycles such as harvest festivals or winter solstice celebrations. Many of these traditions were preserved orally before being documented in the 19th and 20th centuries by folklorists like Karl Robert Jakobson and Juhan Sütiste.

In addition to folklore, rahvapärane also covers practical aspects of daily life, such as traditional crafts like weaving, pottery, and woodcarving, as well as agricultural techniques adapted to Estonia’s climate. These skills were essential for survival in rural communities and continue to be practiced by some artisans today. Language plays a key role as well, with proverbs, sayings, and idioms forming an integral part of everyday communication.
