Rõhuandurite, also known as pressure sensors, are devices that convert an input pressure into an electrical signal. This signal can then be measured, interpreted, and used to control or monitor various systems. They are fundamental components in a wide array of applications, from simple domestic appliances to complex industrial processes and automotive systems.

The principle of operation for most pressure sensors involves a diaphragm or a similar sensing element that deforms under applied pressure. This deformation is then detected by a transducer that converts it into a measurable electrical output. Common types of transducers include piezoresistive elements, capacitive sensors, and piezoelectric crystals. Piezoresistive sensors change their electrical resistance in response to pressure, while capacitive sensors alter their capacitance. Piezoelectric sensors generate a voltage when subjected to mechanical stress.

Pressure sensors are categorized based on the type of pressure they measure. Absolute pressure sensors measure pressure relative to a perfect vacuum. Gauge pressure sensors measure pressure relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure. Differential pressure sensors measure the difference between two pressures. They are crucial for monitoring fluid levels, flow rates, and detecting leaks in pipelines, as well as for ensuring the safe operation of machinery by preventing over-pressurization. In the automotive industry, they are used for engine management, tire pressure monitoring, and airbag deployment systems.
