Quasiisotropy is a term used in materials science and physics to describe a material that exhibits properties that are nearly the same in all directions, but not exactly identical. This is in contrast to isotropic materials, where properties are perfectly uniform in all directions, and anisotropic materials, where properties vary significantly with direction.

A quasi-isotropic material possesses a degree of directional dependence in its characteristics, such as mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, or optical behavior. However, this variation is generally small and often negligible for many practical applications. The difference between quasi-isotropy and true isotropy typically arises from the underlying microstructure of the material. For instance, a composite material made of randomly oriented fibers might be considered quasi-isotropic if the distribution of fibers is sufficiently random to average out directional effects, even though individual fibers have anisotropic properties.

The concept of quasi-isotropy is important when designing structures or devices where uniform performance is desired, but perfect isotropy is difficult or impossible to achieve. Engineers and scientists may approximate a material as isotropic for simplification if its quasi-isotropic nature is sufficiently close to true isotropy for the intended purpose. Analyzing the degree of quasi-isotropy often involves testing the material's properties along multiple axes and comparing the results.
