Puolijohdepisteitä, often translated as semiconductor points or junctions, refers to the fundamental building blocks of semiconductor devices. These points are formed where different types of semiconductor materials meet, or where a semiconductor material interfaces with a metal or another insulator. The most common type of puolijohdepiste is the p-n junction, created by joining a p-type semiconductor (with an excess of positive charge carriers, or holes) and an n-type semiconductor (with an excess of negative charge carriers, or electrons).
