Pulmonisesta is a relatively rare medical condition characterized by inflammation of the pleura, the tissue surrounding the lungs. The term "pulmonisesta" is often used interchangeably with pleuritis, but it specifically refers to the inflammation of the visceral pleura, the layer of tissue that covers the lungs.

The causes of pulmonisesta can be varied and may include infections, autoimmune disorders, and injuries. Common infections that can lead to pulmonisesta include pneumonia, tuberculosis, and histoplasmosis. Autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus can also cause pulmonary pleuritis.

Symptoms of pulmonisesta may include sharp pain or discomfort in the chest, which can worsen with deep breathing, coughing, or movement. Coughing up blood or yellow or green mucus may also be present. In severe cases, the fluid buildup in the pleural space, known as pleural effusion, can cause the chest wall to become significantly swollen.

The diagnosis of pulmonisesta typically involves a combination of imaging studies, such as chest X-rays and computed tomography scans, and laboratory tests, including blood work and fluid analysis. Treatment typically involves addressing the underlying cause of the inflammation and managing symptoms. Antibiotics may be prescribed to treat infections, while pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications may be used to alleviate symptoms.

There are varying levels of severity associated with pulmonisesta, ranging from mild inflammation to severe fluid buildup. In severe cases, complications such as pneumonia, sepsis, or cardiac arrest may arise. In patients with compromised pulmonary function or coexisting conditions, the condition may become life-threatening.
