protsendi

Protsendi is the Estonian genitive form of protsent, the word for percentage. It appears in written Estonian when indicating “of a percentage” or attributing a characteristic to a percentage.

A percentage is a dimensionless quantity that expresses a portion as a number out of 100. It is related to a fraction f as percent = f × 100, and conversely f = percent/100. Percentages are commonly represented with a percent sign, %. They can also be written as decimals (0.25) or as fractions (1/4).

Examples help illustrate the idea. If 25 of 100 voters favor a candidate, that is 25%. If 3/5 of respondents are included, that equals 60%. Percent values are often rounded to the nearest whole percent or to one or two decimal places, depending on the level of precision required.

Percentages are used across many fields to express parts relative to a whole. They appear in statistics, economics, finance, education, marketing, and everyday life to compare shares, track changes over time, or indicate discounts and tax rates. In reporting, changes between percentages may be described in percentage points to denote an absolute difference between values rather than a relative percentage change.
