Prostatism refers to a collection of lower urinary tract symptoms that are commonly experienced by men. These symptoms are often associated with the enlargement of the prostate gland, a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, prostatism can also be caused by other factors, including inflammation of the prostate (prostatitis) or prostate cancer. The symptoms can vary in severity and may include difficulty in starting urination, a weak or interrupted urine stream, frequent urination especially at night (nocturia), a sudden urge to urinate (urgency), and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.
