Proscriptum is a term derived from Latin, meaning "written down" or "declared." Historically, it most famously refers to the "proscriptio" or "proscriptions" of ancient Rome. These were public lists of individuals declared enemies of the state, whose property was confiscated and who were outlawed. Proscription was a brutal political tool used during periods of civil strife, notably by Lucius Cornelius Sulla during his dictatorship in the 1st century BCE.
