During initiation, goals and feasibility are assessed; planning develops a detailed plan covering deliverables, milestones, budget, quality criteria, and risk management. Execution implements the plan, while monitoring and control track progress and adjust as needed. Closing finalizes deliverables, secures sign-off, and captures lessons learned.

Projects occur in many sectors, including construction, information technology, research, public administration, and community development. They may be funded by private investments, public budgets, or international aid, and frequently align with strategic objectives such as modernization, policy implementation, or economic growth.

Management of projects often relies on structured methodologies and roles, with a project manager overseeing scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk. Common approaches include traditional waterfall and agile or hybrid frameworks. Success depends on clear objectives, stakeholder engagement, effective governance, and ongoing evaluation of outcomes against planned benefits.
