Environmental and compliance considerations may also be treated as features for some products.

Developing a set of product features involves gathering user requirements, market research, and technical feasibility assessments. Features are prioritized to balance user value with feasibility and cost, often using methods such as the Kano model or MoSCoW prioritization. The outcome is a feature specification that guides design, development, and QA, while avoiding feature creep and scope ambiguity.

Once released, features are evaluated through usability testing, performance benchmarking, defect tracking, and user feedback. Features may be updated, expanded, or deprecated over the product lifecycle in response to changing needs and technology.
