prePyrenean
PrePyrenean refers to the geological and ecological zone that existed in the area now occupied by the Pyrenees before the mountain-building events that created the current ranges. The term is used by geologists and paleoclimatologists to describe the record of sedimentary deposits, paleosols, and fossil assemblages that were laid down when the Iberian Peninsula and the Massif Central were still largely at low altitude and more humid than they are today.
