Porównujcy is the ASCII variant of the Polish term porównujący, the present active participle of the verb porównywać, meaning “comparing” or “that compares.” It is used in Polish to describe a person or thing that performs the action of comparing.

In standard Polish, porównujący functions as an adjective and agrees with the noun it modifies in gender, number, and case. It is commonly found in phrases such as osoba porównująca ceny (a person who compares prices), metoda porównująca dane (a method that compares data), or narzędzie porównujące dwa zestawy plików (a tool that compares two sets of files). The participle has different inflected forms, for example porównujący (masc. sg. nom.), porównująca (fem. sg. nom.), porównujące (neut. sg. nom. or pl.), and so on, depending on grammatical context.

In technical contexts Polish often prefers the noun porównywacz or the borrowing komparator to denote a device or function that performs a comparison. The form porównujący is more typical in natural-language descriptions and as a general descriptive adjective rather than as a fixed technical term.

Etymology and orthography: the word derives from porównywać with the agent suffix -ący. In texts that omit diacritics, it may appear as porównujacy. As with other participles in Polish, it can be used attributively or predicatively and forms a bridge between verbal meaning and adjectival description.
