portalet
A portalet is a portable toilet, often rented for events, construction sites, or any temporary location lacking permanent restroom facilities. These units are typically constructed from plastic or fiberglass and are designed to be easily transported and installed. A standard portalet contains a chemical toilet, a small holding tank for waste, and usually a toilet paper dispenser. Some models may also include a small mirror, a coat hook, or a shelf. Ventilation is a key feature, often provided by a vent pipe extending from the holding tank to the exterior, which helps to reduce odors. The waste in the holding tank is treated with chemicals to break down solids and control smell. When the portalet is full or at the end of its rental period, a specialized service company empties the tank, cleans the unit, and replenishes the chemicals and toilet paper. Portalets are a common sight at outdoor concerts, sporting events, festivals, and temporary work zones, offering a basic and accessible sanitation solution in situations where traditional plumbing is unavailable.
