Polymer hypersensitivity refers to an adverse immune response triggered by exposure to polymers. Polymers are large molecules composed of repeating structural units, and they are found in a vast array of everyday products, including medical devices, textiles, food packaging, and cosmetics. While many polymers are biocompatible and inert, certain individuals can develop a hypersensitivity to them. This hypersensitivity can manifest as a range of symptoms, from localized skin reactions like contact dermatitis to more systemic allergic responses.

The exact mechanisms underlying polymer hypersensitivity are not fully understood and can vary depending on the specific polymer and the individual's immune system.
