This material served as a protective and decorative layer, offering an alternative to traditional wood or stone cladding.

The primary purpose of plåtrustningen was to shield the underlying wooden structure from the elements, thereby increasing its longevity and reducing maintenance. The metal sheeting was typically galvanized iron or steel, chosen for its durability and relative affordability.
