Plasttejp is a general term for adhesive tape whose backing is a plastic film. The tape consists of a thin plastic film coated on one side with an adhesive layer and is produced in a variety of forms for different uses. The most common backing materials are polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester (PET) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Adhesives include rubber-based, acrylic and hot-melt formulations, selected for factors such as bonding strength, temperature resistance and ease of removal.

Common types of plasttejp include packaging tapes made from PP film with acrylic or rubber-based adhesives, often clear or colored and used to seal boxes and parcels; electrical insulation tapes made from PVC with rubber or acrylic adhesives, used to insulate and color-code electrical wires; and specialty tapes such as high-temperature or outdoor tapes designed for more demanding environments. There are also clear, decorative and double-sided variants, each with specific adhesion and surface properties.

Applications range from packaging and shipping to general household repairs, arts and crafts, and temporary mounting or labeling. The choice of tape depends on surface compatibility, required bond strength, exposure to moisture or UV light, and ease of removal without residue. Storage and handling considerations include keeping tapes away from extreme heat, direct sunlight and dust to preserve adhesion.

Environmental considerations note that plasttejp is primarily based on plastic films and adhesives, which may pose recycling and waste-disposal challenges. Some tapes are designed for easier removal or may be compatible with certain recycling streams, but overall disposal depends on the material composition and local facilities.
