Pildisensorin, often translated as image sensor, is a crucial component in digital cameras and other imaging devices. It's responsible for capturing light and converting it into an electrical signal, which is then processed to create a digital image. Essentially, it replaces the film used in traditional cameras.

There are two primary types of image sensors: Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs) and Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) sensors. CCDs were historically dominant, known for their excellent image quality and low noise. However, CMOS sensors have become increasingly prevalent due to their lower power consumption, faster readout speeds, and lower manufacturing costs. Modern CMOS sensors often achieve image quality comparable to or exceeding that of CCDs.

Image sensors are made up of an array of millions of tiny light-sensitive elements called pixels. Each pixel records the intensity of light that falls on it. Color is captured by using color filters, typically arranged in a Bayer pattern, over individual pixels, allowing the sensor to distinguish between red, green, and blue light. The electronic signals from these pixels are then read out, amplified, and converted into digital data by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This digital data forms the basis of the final image file. The performance of a pildisensorin is often judged by its resolution (number of pixels), sensitivity (ability to capture light in low-light conditions), dynamic range (ability to capture detail in both bright and dark areas), and noise levels.
