Periférna is a Slovak adjective used to describe anything that lies on the edge or outer part of a system, body, or organization. It denotes peripheral or outer components rather than central ones, and it can refer to physical placement as well as functional roles that are not core to the main process.

The word derives from Greek peri- meaning around and pherein meaning to bear, passing into Slovak through Latin and other linguistic pathways. In Slovak, periférna is paired with nouns to form phrases such as periférna časť (peripheral part). The related noun periféria denotes the periphery, and periférny or periférne agree with the gender and case of the noun they modify.

In technology and computing, periférne zariadenia (peripheral devices) are devices connected to a computer but not part of its central processing unit. Examples include keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, and external storage. These devices extend functionality and can be added or removed without changing the core system.

In biology and medicine, periférne describes structures near the edge of an organ or body region. Examples include periférne nervy (peripheral nerves) and periférne cievy (peripheral blood vessels). The peripheral nervous system (PNS) comprises nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, in contrast to the central nervous system (CNS). Peripheral vision refers to the area visible outside the central field of gaze.
