Construction materials include backing paper or film, an adhesive layer (water-based acrylic, solvent-based, or rubber-based), and a top layer made of paper, polypropylene, polyester, or vinyl. Finishes range from matte to gloss, and transparent options are used to preserve the appearance of the surface under the label.

Printing and production methods encompass digital inkjet, offset, flexography, rotogravure, and screen printing. Labels may be die-cut or kiss-cut to specific shapes.
