pasarme

Pasarme is the infinitive form of the Spanish pronominal verb pasar, formed with the clitic me. In everyday usage, pasarse (and its compounded form pasarte/pasarme) conveys actions that involve the speaker and carry a nuance of duration, immersion, or excess. It is common in colloquial speech and can be found in various tenses with the appropriate pronouns.

One of the most frequent senses is to spend or devote a period of time to an activity. In this use, pasarme emphasizes the speaker’s involvement or commitment. Examples: voy a pasarme la tarde leyendo; me voy a pasar el fin de semana estudiando; se pasó la mañana limpiando la casa. These constructions often carry a sense of intentionally dedicating a lot of time or effort to the activity.

A second sense is to go beyond a limit or to overstep boundaries, often expressed with other forms of pasar (and related phrases). In spoken language, the idea of excess appears in expressions like no te pases (don’t go too far) or se pasó de la raya (he crossed the line). The related infinitive pasarse can appear in contexts that stress exaggeration or transgression, such as me pasé con la bebida, meaning I overdid it with the drink, or se pasa la vida viajando, meaning he spends his life traveling.

Pasarme, like other pronominal forms, is typically used in informal registers and varies regionally in Spanish.
