Paramagneeteiksi is a Finnish term that translates to "paramagnetic" in English. Paramagnetism is a form of magnetism that occurs only in materials that are subjected to an external magnetic field. Paramagnetic materials are weakly attracted by a magnetic field and the material does not retain any magnetism after the external field is removed.

In a paramagnetic material, the atoms or molecules possess permanent magnetic dipole moments. However, these moments are randomly oriented in the absence of an external magnetic field, resulting in no net magnetic moment. When an external magnetic field is applied, these dipoles align themselves with the field, creating a net magnetic moment that is in the same direction as the applied field. This alignment causes the material to be attracted to the magnet. The strength of this attraction is generally weak.

When the external magnetic field is removed, the thermal motion of the atoms or molecules causes the magnetic dipoles to return to their random orientations, and the material loses its magnetism. Examples of common paramagnetic materials include aluminum, platinum, and oxygen. The behavior of paramagnetic materials is described by the Curie law, which states that the magnetization of a paramagnetic material is inversely proportional to the absolute temperature.
