Osusz is a term used in Polish-language technical discourse to refer to processes and technologies that remove moisture from materials or environments. The root comes from the Polish verb osuszyć, meaning to dry out, with related forms such as osuszanie. In practice, osusz describes methods, equipment, and protocols designed to reduce moisture content or humidity to prevent decay, corrosion, mold, or spoilage.

Scope and methods: Osusz covers natural drying, mechanical dehumidification, and heat-assisted drying. Natural drying uses airflow and ambient conditions; mechanical approaches include condensation-based and desiccant-based dehumidification, as well as heat-assisted dryers and vacuum drying for sensitive materials.

Applications: In agriculture and food processing, osusz is used to reduce moisture in grains, fruits, and spices to safe storage levels. In construction and housing, it is applied to control indoor humidity and prevent damp. In electronics and pharmaceuticals, drying after cleaning or wet processes prevents corrosion and microbial growth. Archives and museums use controlled osusz to maintain stable relative humidity and protect artifacts.

Measurement and standards: Drying performance is commonly assessed by moisture content (percent of mass) and relative humidity targets. Typical RH ranges for sensitive facilities are around 40–50%, while materials have material-specific targets.
